Can anyone use the hot spring (Yakushi-no-Yu)?

A

Yes, anyone who pays the visiting donation (adults ¥500, elementary/junior high school students ¥300) may use it. Please bring your own towel.

What is the water quality of Yakushi-no-Yu?

A

The spring is sulfur–calcium–sodium–sulfate–bicarbonate with a water temperature of 71.4°C. It is fully sourced and turns a beautiful milky white when mixed with water.

Do I need a reservation for a prayer service?

A

Yes, prayer services require a reservation. Please contact us in advance by phone or through the inquiry form.

Can I try the sutra copying experience?

A

Yes, it is offered daily. The fee is ¥1,000 and includes a special goshuin stamp. It takes about 15 minutes. No reservation is needed — just ask at reception.

Can I access by car?

A

Yes, you can come by car. It is about 10 minutes from the Nikko IC on the Nikko-Utsunomiya Road. There are paid parking lots near the grounds.

Is Onsenji connected to Rinnoji?

A

Yes, Nikkozan Onsenji is a branch temple of the World Heritage site Nikkozan Rinnoji. It was founded in Enryaku 7 (788 CE) by the priest Shodo, and flourished in the Edo period as a temple directly administered by Rinnoji.
