August 8th Annual Event
Yakushiko Grand Festival & Saito Goma Fire Ritual
Every year on August 8, from 11:00 AM
About the Event
Every year on August 8, a Buddhist service dedicated to Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai, the Buddha of Healing, is held in the main hall of Onsenji Temple. As the service begins, yamabushi mountain ascetics set out toward the shore of Lake Yunoko at the sound of conch-shell horns. There, against the scenic backdrop of the lakeside, a traditional Saitō Dai Goma fire ritual is performed.
